the bags are packed for utah

Adam and I are leaving early tomorrow morning for Utah, we’re visiting Diana’s brother Don and his family for the rest of the week (Diana will join us a couple days later). I’m looking forward to it, we always have a good time with them. Don and I plan to hike the spectacular trail to Angel’s Landing in Zion National Park, I’m really excited about that. I’ve wanted to hike Angel’s Landing for years and years. The only part I’m worried about is temperatures are forecasted to be in the triple digits in Zion NP this week. It goes without saying we’ll be starting out as early as possible. It’s a short but very steep hike, with some exciting exposure.

This is a picture I took when we were visiting those guys last summer. We’d taken a leisurely hike up into the mountains to a pretty waterfall. I was experimenting with long exposures (I was using a six stop ND filter) and my nephew Preston hopped across the frame. I always really liked this.

  1. I can’t wait to hear about the Angel’s Landing trail! It’s been a trail I’ve long wanted to hike, but I honestly don’t think I’d have the nerve. My vertigo would get the best of me on the exposed, narrow sections.

    • Hi Christine! We did pull it off and hiked to Angel’s Landing! The trail wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be, but objectively-speaking I think it could give someone with vertigo major fits. More than once I got a tad dizzy admiring either the huge walls above us or the empty air below, the setting is that spectacular. On the other hand, I have no doubt someday you’ll still attempt it, and the first half of the trail is easy and wide enough that I’m certain you would reach some of what I think are the nicest views from the trail. Furthermore, the rest of the park is so amazing, a failed attempt at Angel’s Landing would be anticlimactic, imho.
