ken hiking on iron peak, blissfully unaware the post-hike Diet Coke waiting thousands of feet below at the trailhead is now room temperature

Upon returning to the trailhead the traditional post-hike thirst quenching soda provided by Ken was found to be depressingly lukewarm. Then it was overlooked in my car when we switched vehicles in North Bend, we were too tired and contented from the day to notice. I almost drank some of it today after I got done mowing the neighbors’ grass across the street. The landlord lives in California, I take care of the yard for him. He’s currently renting to a Microsoft-employed (well, technically they’re both vendors) Russian family from Moscow that lately has been repeatedly threatening to move someplace warmer. Which seems ironic since they’re from Russia. Speaking of which, it was deceptively warm this morning and I was thirsty. Ken already said I could drink the soda, but I feel it would be tainted refreshment. It has to be consumed after a hike, that’s all.

This is Ken on the lower part of Iron Peak’s summit ridge. Now that is a man who earned a Diet Coke……

  1. He was pretty bummed about the warm diet cokes. We should have put them in the creek prior to leaving. Oh well, next time. Still thinking about this hike. Soon other peaks up that way should be melting out, yes?
