Escape from Camp 14

I borrowed this book from a friend, she was showing me a few of her recent reads and Shin Dong-hyuk’s portrait caught my eye. I already had an inkling of what a fucked-up place North Korea is but reading Escape from Camp 14 opened my eyes even more to the incredible suffering that has taken place there (and continues). This is the story of a man who was born in a North Korean political prison camp and escaped and lived to survive about it. I am indebted to Shin Dong-hyuk (and author Blaine Harden….who lives in Seattle) for sharing his story. It’s hard to believe what he lived through.

What does the future of North Korea look like with Kim Jong Un in power?
