shooting forever from the Northern Loop Trail
A candid portrait of my friend Kelsie shooting on the north side of Mount Rainier National Park: She’s a veteran of the Wonderland Trail, having walked all 95.2 miles in one fell swoop. I took this last weekend, when she and I explored Grand Park from Lake Eleanor. Grand Park is a two-mile long plateau (wildflowers that never end) on the north side of the park.
Oliver Fern went on his first hike, yesterday: A beautiful afternoon on easy Sunset Ridge in Olympic National Park! Diana nursed Oliver while Adam and I waited with her in a soft grassy bowl with a commanding view of Mt. Angeles and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. On the way down, I carried both Oliver (chest) and Adam (shoulders). Having both of my boys on me was probably one of the highlights of all the hiking experiences I’ve ever had in my life, it was an incredible feeling as a father.
Adam and I came home after the hike and dinner so we could get a good night sleep (Diana stayed with Oliver back in Port Angeles): We caught the 9:45 PM ferry across the moonlit Sound back into the city. I carried Adam to bed from the car.
