This weekend is the Emerald City Comicon. Believe it or not, I’ve never been to a comic-con (a comic book and pop culture convention)! Hopefully that’ll change in a few days. I’m trying to decide whether or not to take Adam with me. I think I probably will- but the downside is that means I’ll have to go on a Saturday or Sunday. I’d much rather go on Friday. Oliver Fern could get in free. Should I go on Friday, stretch Oliver between his morning and afternoon nap? Nah, I think I have to take Adam.
In the spirit of the comic-con, here are a handful of different Wolverines. I’m inspired by these two pictures as an experiment but they fell far short of what I was trying to accomplish for a group portrait. I like being resourceful and cobbling together stuff around the house and I’d constructed what I thought was a really cool base- A sheet of picture glass over a metal cooling rack (think: industrial laboratory). When I manipulated my lighting a certain way, it looked like the Wolverines were in a hologram. But alas, I didn’t get a chance to actually start shooting until everybody was home tonight and the floor shaking (hundred year old house) stole some of the takes I really wanted. Dang it all! Not surprisingly, my better pictures were the ones I shot wide open and isolated more. I still have a lot to learn about shooting close-ups like this.
The figures in this portrait are from the years between 1992 and 2006.
