adam, oliver fern and i rescue a snail on alki beach from a sea gull
The boys’ mother had to work this holiday Monday so we were on our own. It rained all day, non-stop. I didn’t particularly want to leave the house but I’d casually mentioned the minus tides to Adam with the result being I was roped into taking the boys to Alki for a walk. A rainy, rainy walk but it was surprisingly warm. Oliver Fern slept for a couple hours in the morning, therefore we arrived in West Seattle late for the best exploring. We did see a handful of starfish, lots of molted crabs and we rescued a snail that a sea gull was pecking at. I think we rescued the snail. It’s hard to tell the difference between living and dead with some sea creatures. It was interesting to feel how much heavier one of these shells is with an occupant inside. I suppose we weren’t really rescuing the snail, it was more the natural order of things. But half the sea gulls in Seattle persist on potato chips from passengers on the ferries criss-crossing the Sound so we decided this snail deserved a break.
This weekend, Adam talked Diana into getting blue nail polish for him.
