we give great thanks to the honeybees of the world and vow henceforth and forever to always include plenty of delicious flowers in our garden
After Oliver Fern and I finished tinkering in the garden this morning, back inside I heaved the backpack carrier down and immediately noticed the humongous honeybee tangled in the moppy hair above his forehead! Try as I might, I could not easily disentangle Mr. Pollen-Legs. Finally, fighting panic and adrenaline and blundering, I fluffed the buzzer out with the back of my fingers…. onto the floor (we quickly covered him with a drinking glass so he would not injure himself flying headfirst into the toilet or refrigerator). It’s unbelievable to me that Oliver did not get stung, as tangled as the confused bee was. The even better part of this story- Mr. Pollen-Legs was released outside and went buzzing away to a life of more pollen gathering.
This is Lucy, who has been known to bark at bees. She is guarding a patch of pollen-rich thyme. Fortunately for bees, her bark is far worse than her bite.
We feel immensely grateful for the honeybee kingdom. We promise to do our best and always include plenty of flowers in our garden. We will never forget this day. Thank you bees.
